RoughRider's Prairie Storm Budweiser, MH Bred To GCH CH Fireside's Coconimo
We bred Buddy to GCH CH Fireside's Coconimo in August 2013. This female Griffon is beautiful and knows how to hunt. On October 15, 2013 Coco gave birth to eight nice puppies ( 5 females & 3 males).

Today, I took the dogs down to Corning to do some bird work. A large male English Setter viciously attacked Cooper without provocation. The setter rolled Cooper three times, grabbing Cooper's neck & head in his mouth. Cooper was completely defenseless. I was able to grab the setter's neck and muzzle to forcefully pull him off Cooper. The setter tried to twist his head and bite me. I lifted the setter off the ground, at which time Pierre took control of him. Cooper was badly shaken up but had no puncture wounds.
The female owner of the setter said her dog had never exhibited that behavior before. Really??? She was apologetic.
We got Cooper back into the field hunting birds quickly to try an minimize the long range effects of the attack. Cooper did excellent in the field. Time will tell if Cooper can ever forget the attack.

Buddy & I attended our first AKC Dog Show for four days in Stockton, CA. On the first day, Buddy was nervous & unfamiliar with the controlled chaos of the show. When the judge approached Buddy, he pulled away & promptly sat down. This was not what the judge wanted to see. Buddy finished second & received no points. Day two through Day four Buddy was more comfortable and did awesome. Buddy took Winners Dog/Best of Opposite & Best of Winners to get a point each day towards his AKC Championship. Buddy needs fifteen points for his CH. We learned a lot but are way more comfortable in the field hunting birds.

Woofstock
On June 7, 2013 me, Joanne, Buddy and Cooper went down to Woofstock in Vallejo, CA. Woofstock is one of the biggest dog shows in California. Most folks dressed up like hippies from the 1960s. We saw some sights to be sure.
We traveled to Woofstock was to have Buddy's hips and elbows x-rayed in preparation of breeding him with selected females. Interest in Buddy started during his journey to earning his AKC Senior and Master Hunt Titles. The veterinarian advised us Buddy's hips were excellent and his elbows were normal. The final call on Buddy's x-rays will be made by OFA. Buddy also submitted a sperm sample. It was determined Buddy can swim with the best of them (lol).

AKC Hunt Test at Sauvie Island, Oregon
June 1, 2013 Sauvie Island (Portland), Oregon.
I went to Portland, Oregon with two of my hunting dogs and another Griffon to attend the AKC Hunt Test being put on by the German Shorthair Club of Oregon. The venue for the hunt test was Sauvie Island located about 12 miles northwest of downtown Portland. The island is an agricultural paradise of farms and wildlife. I am told the island is the largest interior island in the Untied States.
My Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, Roughrider's Prairie Storm Budweiser SH, was attempting to pass his fifth consecutive master hunt test to become my first master hunt titled dog. My dog's call name is "Buddy". Buddy is very athletic, strong, intelligent and calm with superior hunt ability. He is a bird finding machine!!
My eleven month old Vizsla, Ohaza's Stone Mountain Cooper JH, tackled his fourth consecutive senior hunt test to earn his hunt title. Cooper is a sweet, intelligent, birdy and calm with a super nose. Due to Cooper's young age, we put very little pressure on him in training and he performs flawlessly. Cooper earned his AKC Senior Hunt Title. A huge accomplishment for a young dog.

Buddy ran his hunt test late Saturday afternoon. It was hot and humid, which makes it harder on a bird dog. Buddy was braced with a German Wirehaired Pointer from Wireswest GWPs. Buddy's brace-mate was a AKC Dual Champion & Amateur Field Champion. At the start of the hunt test, the GWP took off like a rocket. Buddy hunted strong for the conditions, was rock solid on pointing birds, retrieving and honoring of his brace-mate. After thirty minutes, Buddy earned his fifth straight MH test pass to earn his AKC Master Hunt Title. It was a lot of training and hardwork but we did it.
It was a fantastic weekend. I was even successful running a female Griffon, Brandy, in a SH for Kristi Rodney of Whiskeytown Sporting Dogs. It was the fourth SH pass for Brandy.
I owe a huge debt of gratitude and thanks to Pierre Urrutia of Diamond P gun Dogs for helping me prepare and train my two dogs to be successful in the hunt tests. Pierre is a Pro-Trainer who I refer to as the "gun-dog whisperer".
